A new community physiotherapy service to make it easier for Wandsworth residents to get the advice and help they need with joint, back and muscle problems is being launched this month. (April)
Working with St Georges University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and NHS South West London the new service run by Vita Health Group will be able to treat all types of musculoskeletal MSK (bone, joint and muscle) conditions. It will offer flexible treatment and support to help keep people moving, increase understanding give expert advice with the aim of long-term prevention where possible.
It is estimated one in three people live with a condition such as arthritis or back pain and can face symptoms including pain, stiffness, limited movement and disability which affect their quality of life and independence.
Commenting on the new service, Dr Nicola Williams, Planned Care Clinical Lead for NHS SWLondon, said: “Up to a third of GP visits are for MSK conditions and this new partnership will help to ensure our patients have timely access to professional physiotherapy advice and treatment to help them develop the knowledge and confidence for better long-term musculoskeletal health to make daily life easier.”
Ben Wanless Consultant MSK Physiotherapist at St Georges said: “We want to help people to be active and grow, work and age well by having the best treatment for their conditions and the knowledge to manage it and prevent conditions deteriorating in the future. Our services are delivered at a range of clinic locations working with local residents, GPS and physiotherapists with the benefit of lived experience and specialist medical knowledge.”

New self-management courses will also be available to help patients cope with various conditions and reduce pain levels.
