Gynaecological Problems

Did you know that?
  • 1 in 3 women aged 35-55 have urinary incontinence, and about 50% of women over 55.
  • 70-80% of incontinence can be cured with pelvic floor exercises within four months.
  • It is common to suffer from painful sex post-natally, which can be treated effectively with physiotherapy
  • Pelvic organ prolapse is a very common problem which can happen for a number of reasons and responds well to treatment
The most common cause of incontinence is weak pelvic floor muscles.  A strong pelvic floor is not only important for continence but also for pelvic and core stability and for good sexual health.
Pelvic floor physiotherapy helps to teach you how to contract these muscles; you will receive an individualised home exercise programme.  These exercises will then be monitored and progressed appropriately.

Obstetrics – Pregnancy & New Mums

When you are pregnant, your body goes through some major physical and hormonal changes.  These can cause musculoskeletal problems such as pelvic girdle pain, low back pain and pubic pain to name a few.   There is help out there!  Physiotherapy can assist with these problems to restore normal movement, reduce your pain and allow you to remain active during your pregnancy.
  • 1 in 5 women suffer from pregnancy related pelvic girdle pain
  • Physiotherapy and Pilates exercises to teach you to strengthen your back, hips, stomach and pelvic floor muscles can help reduce your pain, prepare you for labour and for looking after your baby.
  • It is important to remain as active as possible during pregnancy and our specialist physiotherapists can guide you in the best way to do this
